Where the Langham Box offers shagreen as an inset detail, the Corinthia commits entirely — every surface wrapped in a deep charcoal shagreen, its dense pebbly texture absorbing light in a way that smooth materials simply cannot, edged all around in a cream resin border that gives the whole box a framed, architectural quality. The lid is the piece's defining moment: a geometric inlay in that same cream — a cross dividing the surface into four quadrants, centered on a perfect circle — rendered in the graphic language of Art Deco marquetry, the kind of motif found on the floors of grand European hotels and the lids of vanity cases carried aboard the Orient Express. The brass clasp at the front is a slim horizontal pull, nothing more, which is exactly right. Inside: fabric-lined, composed, ready for whatever is placed within it. At over 13 inches long and nearly 4 inches deep, the Corinthia has genuine capacity — this is a box that holds things of importance, not just things of sentiment.
