The Maris lantern is built from natural rattan in a tight diagonal cross-hatch weave that wraps a tapered silhouette — wide at the rim, narrowing toward the base — and holds a clear glass hurricane insert that protects the flame while letting the light filter out through every diamond in the grid. The bentwood carry handle arches cleanly above the rim in the same natural tone as the body, making it easy to move between a dining table, a patio, an entryway, or a garden path without losing any of the lantern's considered aesthetic in the transition. At nearly 16 inches tall and 9.5 inches wide, it has real presence as a standalone object. Lit, the diamond-patterned shadows it casts on surrounding surfaces are the whole point.
